In 1957, two businessmen embarked on a dream to create the resort Ville d'Estérel. In 1959, Estérel was founded and Mr. Fridolin Simard became its first mayor. Estérel is located around Lakes Masson, du Nord, Dupuis, Grenier and Castor, and covers an area of 16.20 square kilometers.

Between the years 1960 and 1970, the Hôtel Estérel became an outstanding holiday destination and contributed greatly to promoting the resort in the Laurentides. The painter Jean-Paul Riopelle lived on Lac Masson, where he built his workshop; Estérel was an inspiration for him, with its breathtaking scenery and majestic forests.

Remarkable for its residential architectural research, Estérel offers great privacy due to its vegetation and topography; the perfect place to build a haven of peace and leisure, far from the metropolis' fast pace. In 2008, we entered in the "Fleurons du Québec" competition which rewards the efforts of horticulture and landscape beautification of various municipalities in Québec, and we are only City to have received four stars out of five. Estérel is committed to maintaining and surpassing this designation in the future.

The environment is a primary concern for the elected Council; the main lakes of the City have been thoroughly studied in order to promote good health. A strategy for the conservation of water, shorelines and wetlands is in place.

Estérel is a winter paradise for cross country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling while summer presents opportunities for golf, tennis, hiking and water sports.
